HP small form factor P4 workstations now available from Axiz

HP`s newest small form factor (SFF), Pentium 4-based workstation, targeted at high-performance users, is available from Axiz.

"This is a value workstation designed to meet a specific market requirement for value-priced, small form factor workstations," explains Margie Adam, HP personal systems group product manager at Axiz.

The chassis design makes this workstation very compact, with dimensions of 3.95 x 13.3 x 15.1-inch. It supports integrated 2D graphics, and optional professional multi-display 2D graphics and OpenGL 3D workstation graphics, features an integrated gigabit LAN card for high-speed throughput and offers a high degree of security, thanks to the hood sensor, cable lock and Kensington lock provision, as well as the optional keyless Solenoid hood lock.

Adam continues: "The HP xw3100 workstation delivers the optimal combination of small size and expandability, with a full-sized 51/4-inch external bay for standard desktop optical storage devices. It has been designed to facilitate serviceability, with access cover removal via a single latch, tool-less AGP, PCI card and motherboard removal and colour-coded cables and connectors.

"HP has designed this SFF workstation to cater for the unique requirements of users in the mid-market CAD, engineers, architectural engineers and architects, financial traders performing real-time analysis and portfolio analysis; as well as digital video and online editors and the GIS applications markets. Independent hardware and software vendors have certified this performance-tuned system," she states.

Manageability features include:

* Change control/notification to enable users to proactively maintain a stable environment;

* Active update that delivers HP software updates continuously and automatically;

* HP Client Manager that tightly integrates Intelligence Manageability technology within Altiris express to provide superior hardware management;

* Insight Management Agent that provides DMI, asset management, fault management and local alerting;

* Altiris express that reduces initial PC deployment and ongoing image update costs; and

* PC Transplant to facilitate the transfer of personal settings and data to a new PC, and the transition to new technology without loss of user productivity.

Adam concludes: "The Financial Times recently reviewed the xw3100, stating, `HP`s new xw3100 - the company`s smallest work station to date - has both [processing power and graphics capabilities]...In use, the xw3100 is a smooth machine with plenty of power under the hood and some smart design features. A good buy.`"
