HP strengthens thin client software

Johannesburg, 05 Mar 2009

HP has improved the user experience and simplified management of its HP thin client portfolio, with enhanced software choices included on every HP thin client.

HP Device Manager 4.0 delivers simple, sophisticated centralised administration capabilities, the company says. The HP TeemTalk terminal emulation software provides easier basic mainframe connectivity and communications with applications in the centre.

Says Charl Snyman, VP and GM, commercial products, Personal Systems Group EMEA at HP: “HP Device Manager delivers simple deployment, flexible integration, enhanced automation, network scalability and Microsoft Active Directory support for quick and easy integration into IT environments, and is free on every HP thin client.”

A key feature and enhancement of HP Device Manager includes quick installation, the company says. The installation takes place in less than five minutes, allowing IT administrators more management such as automatic scheduling of device shut down/start up.

Further improvements include enhanced operating system imaging capability, the ability for virtual network computing to work in network address translated environments, allowing for better remote access and management. It also allows administrative access and remote login through an Active Directory/LDAP structure for more flexibility and security.

HP Device Manager 4.0 and HP TeemTalk are available for download at no additional cost to HP thin client customers.
