Learning solutions company Hi-Performance Learning (HPL) and black-owned IT company Unicus Business Solutions have joined forces to offer IT and learning solutions, particularly within the public sector.
Unicus Business Solutions, established by former Choice Technologies MD Jabu Sibanda early this year, has taken a 26% stake in HPL in a deal that is "designed to take on the big players in the business solutions arena". The deal was effective from 1 November.
Johannesburg-based HPL offers services in learning strategy, design, technology, media and performance consulting. Unicus is a business solutions provider, incorporating IT infrastructure and software, as well as enterprise management.
"Unicus aims to become one of SA`s dominant business solution providers in terms of technology and processes within the next five years," says Sibanda. "Along with HPL, we are able to offer a total solution that also takes training needs into account."
Ryan Falkenberg, MD of HPL, says organisations in SA face a critical challenge in implementing new technologies without shedding jobs or disempowering staff.
"Business improvement too often focuses on technological change and not on the human aspect. Currently over 20% of investments in software technology fail to deliver, largely due to the inability of staff to use the technology effectively," he says.
Falkenberg says HPL will focus on creating artificial intelligence and improving "time to competence". "We are far advanced in developing learning technology that maps the human mind. By applying the logical rules of clever human minds, we are creating artificial intelligence that revolutionises human learning. This is not only invaluable for management development, but can help tackle the numerous learning challenges faced by developing nations."
