HP`s iPAQ H6300: Everything and the kitchen sink

Johannesburg, 25 Oct 2004

While convergence has been taking place between the worlds of mobile telephony and the PDA for some time now, most recently manifested in the form of the smartphone, many users still have a preference for PDAs with mobile telephony functionality built-in, as opposed to mobile phones with PDA functionality built-in.

"The iPAQ H6300 is the perfect device for these users, integrating the best of what the PDA market has to offer today with GSM (cellular telephony) and GPRS (high-speed mobile connectivity) functionality that ensures users need never be out of contact or have out of date information on their mobile device," says Andre Wollheim, HP product manager at Tarsus Technologies.

"With the H6300, HP has crammed literally every piece of functionality available in both the PDA and smartphone space into a single easy-to-use device for the no-compromise business executive," Wollheim explains.

Based on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Operating System for Pocket PCs (Phone Edition), Wollheim says the H6300 offers all of the functionality users are afforded with a smartphone, but offers an interface and form factor previous PDA users will be more familiar with.

"Connectivity is almost 100% guaranteed through Bluetooth, wireless LAN (802.11b) and GSM/GPRS functionality. Added to this, HP has integrated a 640 x 480 resolution digital camera, which ensures ideal resolution for images that are destined for the Web or e-mail," says Wollheim.

"As if the standard functionality and the 55MB of storage space available to users is not enough, users can also add additional peripherals and storage capacity through a SD Expansion card slot."

"HP has also bundled numerous proprietary and third-party applications with the H6300. These ensure that users can easily create secure connections to their corporate network, easily manage Bluetooth connections, safely and reliably backup their critical data and both manage and easily transfer images taken on the integrated digital camera to other devices and users," Wollheim explains.

"With the H6300 in their hands, I don`t believe mobile warriors could want for anything more. With its full complement of connectivity issues, feature-rich business applications and nice to have features like the built-in digital camera, HP has set a new benchmark for other manufacturers to follow," Wollheim concludes.
