HP's most significant printer advances in 30 years now in SA

HP's completely re-engineered laser printing technologies, unveiled globally earlier this year, are now available in South Africa.

The new technologies have been described as HP's most significant laser printer advances in 30 years. They allow for smaller, sleeker, more efficient devices, with significantly lower power consumption and the same levels of printing quality HP is renowned for.

Ravi Perumal, Print Category Manager at HP South Africa, says: "I'm excited about the innovations we are now bringing to market. They address customer demands for speed, quality and cost control, plus our latest devices are aesthetically pleasing and meet the demand for a smaller device footprint."

The new technologies are already available in enterprise grade devices, while the entry-level devices featuring the technological makeover will go into local retailers soon. While the devices will be powered by all new technology, the HP naming conventions for the various device categories will remain the same.

Perumal explains the new technologies are the result of eight years of R&D. HP began this reinvention journey at the very heart of printing, he says: the toner particles. "Traditionally, the coatings on individual particles could be crushed or damaged, resulting in waste. The re-engineered particles have stronger coatings, which optimises the toner and deliver more prints," he says.

In addition, the toner cartridge has undergone a significant makeover and now includes a chip to prevent counterfeiting or unauthorised swap-outs. The HP devices are now around 40% smaller than their predecessors, and critically, use up to 53% less power.

Perumal says the smaller device size and significantly reduced power consumption meet global demand for greater cost efficiencies, greener computing and smaller devices. "Power saving is a major concern and no more so than in South Africa. And globally, due to the cost of real estate, desks are smaller and enterprises are accommodating staff in smaller offices, so MFPs need to be smaller too."
