HR consolidation saves govt millions

Efforts to consolidate federal agencies' human resources systems have already saved the US government $1.3 billion, says Government Executive.

This will continue to save millions in the coming years, the Office of Personnel Management has concluded.

Its latest cost-benefit analysis for the human resources line of business programme found that as more agencies move their operations, information systems and other HR activities to shared service centres, savings snowball.

LA upgrades payroll system

Los Angeles County's 30-year-old HR management system cannot keep up with the 21st century because of its dated language and limited functionality, writes Gov Tech.

In efforts to improve this, the county has recently upgraded to a new e-HR payroll system, serving more than 105 000 county employees as part of a long-term, multiphase project.

The new system, CGI's Ams Advantage ERP solution, is a Web-based interactive system, using modern languages like Java and XML, which allow for more flexibility and more efficient workflow.

Payroll Link goes paperless

By selecting the ColumbiaSoft document locator service, Payroll Link takes a huge step towards a new paperless workflow system, states Dbusiness News.

The Inland Empire-based payroll processing company investigated several options before selecting ColumbiaSoft, the Portland-based innovators behind Document Locator and other document management services.

The document locator moves Payroll Link even closer to a paperless environment. Mike Demerjian, president of Payroll Link, says it "will greatly improve our workplace efficiency while reducing waste".
