HTC experiences unprecedented levels of demand

By Cameo Corporate Communications
Johannesburg, 21 Nov 2006

The newest entrant into the South African mobile phone arena, HTC, is experiencing unprecedented levels of demand for its range of mobile devices, both from consumers and media.

HTC designed and manufactured devices were launched onto the South African market less than a month ago.

This comes on the back of record sales in October for High Tech Computer Corp (HTC). The company experienced 24.85% year-on-year growth from October 2005 to October 2006, and an incredible 61.75% year-on-year growth for the period January to October.

Says Quinton Leigh, Managing Director of Leaf Wireless, HTC's African marketing, distribution and service partner: "The levels of demand for the HTC range have been unbelievable, which serves to re-affirm our belief that there exists a growing niche in the South African market for affordable, high quality smartphone devices."

According to data released this week by international organisation Research and Markets, Africa has the fastest growing mobile market in the world. The continent's subscriber base grew by 66% in 2005 to 135 million users, compared with growth of just 11% in Western Europe during the same period. Total mobile subscribers in the region are expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 22.5% during 2005-2011, resulting in a mobile subscriber base of over 378 million by the end of 2011.

Adds Leigh: "This outlook, combined with HTC's world leadership and growth performance in the Windows Mobile space, can only fuel higher adoption rates of the HTC range."
