Huawei appoints new CEO for Kenya office

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced the appointment of Wind Li as the new Chief Executive Officer for its Kenya representative office.

Li takes over from Herman He, who served as CEO for more than five years.

Prior to his new appointment, Li served as the company's Regional Director of Sales. He has more than 10 years' experience in the telecoms industry, and previously worked as the MD of Huawei in Zambia, and earlier as an account manager with Huawei in Madagascar. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and Applications from Xian University of Technology.

Li's appointment was not the only new appointment by Huawei in Kenya. The transition also saw the naming of John Tanui as the Deputy CEO to head the company's Delivery and Services covering Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Tanzania. Tanui, a registered engineer, has worked with Huawei for more than 10 years under different management levels in the technical department. He holds BTech. and MBA degrees; his appointment is in line with the company's strategy to promote local talent and increase its localisation rate, which currently stands at approximately 70%.

“We are confident of the two appointments for our Kenya operations, being the regional office,” said Li Dafeng, Huawei Regional President for the East and South African Region. “Based on Mr Li's experience in the telecoms industry at both the international level and across the continent, and Mr Tanui's expertise and vast experience in the Kenya market, we will be able to continue providing quality and affordable customised solutions to meet Kenyans' needs.”

Under the new leadership, Huawei is expected to introduce into the Kenyan market its latest products such as the upgraded version of the IDEOS series, and the ascent, which was launched globally earlier in the year during the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona.
