Huawei Technologies announced at Networld+Interop 2001 Exhibition held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA from May 8 to 10 the availability of a core router Quidway NetEngine80. It is featured with wire-rate IP/MPLS forwarding capability. This product is based on the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 processor, the most advanced NPU in the industry. Huawei Technologies is a leading corporation in delivering customized network solutions worldwide.
NetEngine80 core router evolves as one of Huawei`s consistent products with carrier-class service capability. Thanks to its high reliability, wire-rate forwarding capability, advanced DiffServ mechanism and feature-rich service providing capability, it is an optimal choice for the introduction and expansion of Internet and metropolitan backbone networks (MAN).
Fueled by the industry-leading PowerNP network processor technology developed and delivered by IBM, NetEngine80 obtains a wire-rate IP/MPLS forwarding capability for 2.5G POS interface with its total handling capacity surpassing 72Mpps. All the key units used in NetEngine80 including switching fabric, route processing systems as well as power supply are designed in redundant hot backup. It can meet the requirement of carrier-class/high-reliability backbone networks. The Fast Rerouting function of MPLS that is coupled with the APS/MSP automatic protecting switching function on the Sonet/SDH interfaces further boosts networks in reliability.
NetEngine 80 obtains functions such as traffic classification, traffic policy (CAR), congestion avoidance, queuing schedule, output traffic shaping etc. It provides an option for customers with a new congestion control method SA-RED, which can handle the jitter of traffic volume in a smoother way than the traditional WRED method. Its robust queuing schedule functions and output traffic shaping functions can better meet the requirements for multi-services which result in providing efficient service division and obtain a committed guarantee for QOS.
The efficient DiffServ/QoS support delivered by NetEngine80 enables network operators to offer a differentiated QoS guarantee to different customers. It transforms a network into a Converged Network that can simultaneously handle data, voice and video services.
NetEngine80 provides rich route protocol support and also policy route management functions. In addition, it supports multi-cast services, traffic engineering (TE) and VPN application based on MPLS. Coupled with Huawei`s high-, mid- and low-end router series products, other broadband access series products, LAN-SWITCH products, transmission series products etc. it provides corporate network solutions ranging from access networks to core networks. Plus, with Huawei`s IP service switches and other follow-up products that are introduced on the next stage, it will surely provide more intelligent enriched service networks for customers.
"IBM`s high performance PowerNP NP4GS3 network processor provides the efficient data and resource management capabilities required by complex networking systems," said Armando Garcia, vice president of network processors for IBM. "Huawei`s NetEngine80 can help extend the reach of IBM`s advanced NP4GS3 to emerging networking applications across the e-business infrastructure."
"Being the core equipment of the next generation backbone networks, high-end routers are the strategic area of contention for world-class top manufacturers of networking equipment." said Mr. Xu Wenwei, Senior VP of Huawei Technologies."
"NetEngine80 product plus its product series best showcases the technological strengths of Huawei Technologies. It is an efficient solution for operable and manageable IP networks. Huawei follows a sustainable, consistent and internationalized strategy and makes every effort to invest in R&D and service of sophisticated core network products. It conducts extensive cooperation with leading enterprises in the industry in technology and production. This approach helps Huawei to respond to customers` needs for growing services at a quicker pace."
Thanks to IBM`s high-performance network processor Power NP adopted in the NetEngine80 design, it enabled Huawei to greatly reduce time-to-market." he added "We believe that the collaboration operation between Huawei and IBM will help accelerate customer acceptance of the NetEngine 80 as it is mass-produced and supplied for operators. Follow-up products will be introduced into the market".
