The latest phablet-style smartphone from Huawei, the Mate 8, is available in South Africa today.
The 6-inch device was first unveiled in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
It has a recommended retail price of R12 999 and will be available in champagne gold, moonlight silver and space grey.
The Mate 8 runs the Kirin 950 chipset, with CPU boosting power up 100%, GPU performance up 125%, and power efficiency up 70% compared to the Kirin 925. The device's architecture includes four A72 2.3GHz processors and four A53 1.8GHz processors.
The device has a 4 000mAh high-density battery, which Huawei says will last over two days of normal usage on one charge. The company says the battery will charge in half an hour with rapid charging technology.
Running on Huawei's EMUI 4.0, based on Android Marshmallow 6.0, the Huawei Mate 8 offers user experience tweaks and improvements. This includes a built-in automatic defragmentation service. It also features a split-screen mode that enables multi-tasking between apps.
