Huawei Technologies, a leading optical network provider, came fourth in the Asia-Pacific Optical Transport (OT) market with 10 percent market share in 2000. This has been recently revealed by RHK, an US-based telecom consulting firm.
By the end of the first quarter of 2001, Huawei Technologies has deployed 59,000 OptiXTM systems in over 20 countries and regions. In Asia Pacific these include China, South Korea, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
As early as in March 1999 Huawei first introduced MADM (multiple add/drop multiplexer) technology to the industry. Since then, it has helped build simple, reliable and cost-saving networks with its cross-connect ability ranging from 16x16 VC-4 for STM-1 system up to 768x768 VC-4 for STM-64 system, addressing the needs of its global customers.
Experiencing a strong annual growth of more than 100% in the past 5 years, Huawei is rapidly moving ahead in the global telecoms marketplace with its total network solutions, competing with other industry peers. In addition to Asia-Pacific, its OptiXTM products have found application in Germany, Yemen, Algeria, Kenya, and Brasil.
In Asia-Pacific, Huawei grabbed a 31 percent share in 2000 in the fastest-growing Chinese SDH market, the largest telecom market next to the USA.
Huawei`s competitive solutions feature unique MADM design, superior cross-connect ability up to 768x768 VC-4, multi-vendor compatibility, multi-service accessibility (TDM/ATM/IP), and efficient protection with less hardware (one-fiber functions multi-protections etc.)
Among the leading providers of telecom equipment and network solutions in the industry, Huawei has grown into the largest optical network provider in China. It has deployed more than 60 DWDM networks for Chinese customers, 25 of them are national backbones and 37 provincial backbones in addition to 72 large capacity metropolitan area networks (MAN).
The Asia-pacific optical transport market, including SDH/SONET, DCS and DWDM, experienced strong growth of 45 percent in 2000. In the SDH/SONET market (not including DCS), Huawei captured 13 percent market share, closely behind Fujitsu, the strongest one with 19 percent share in this booming Asia-Pacific region.
Huawei Technologies provides a broad array of optical transport products that allows its customers to adopt a multi-service transport platform supporting both IP service and the existing network or Ethernet-based solution for their business growth.
In addition to SDH products up to STM-64 (10Gb/s), Huawei also provides WDM system up to 1600G and Metro products for metropolitan environment.
Incorporated in 1988, Huawei Technologies employs more than 16,000 people and operates in more than 40 countries. It is a leading corporation in designing and delivering network solutions and telecom equipment. Its product lines cover optical access networks, synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH)/dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission, switches, mobile and wireless communications, asymmetric transfer mode (ATM), data communications, intelligent network (IN), signaling transfer point (STP), building integrated timing supply (BITS) and others. Huawei registered a sales revenue of US$ 2.66 billion in 2000. For more information, please visit http://www.huawei.com.
