Huawei`s new series of routers successfully tested by BT Exact

Further endorsements for Huawei`s strengthened European presence
Johannesburg, 01 Sep 2004

Huawei Technologies, a global provider of telecoms infrastructure, today announced the completion of formal testing of its new low- and middle-end Quidway routers by BT Exact, BT`s technology and IT operations division.

The products that have been tested, which include the AR 18-1x, AR 18-2x, AR 3x, AR 28-09, AR 28-10/11, AR 28- 30/31, AR 28-40 and AR 28-80, comprise a complete range of enterprise-ready routers which offer a total IP solution and are fully compatible with existing networks. The Quidway range is well proven in the marketplace in terms of quality, performance, and compatibility and is accepted by customers as extremely cost-effective. The routers all feature one initial VRP (Versatile Routing Platform) software package and include a new easy-to-use command line operation.

Quidway routers offer high technical capabilities for all types of installations, including broadband CPE, enterprise VOIP and end-to-end VPN solutions. Support for IP and IPX routing protocols, QoS, Multicast, Layer2/ Layer 3 VPN, and VOIP, is included plus a wide range of data interfaces, standard security features and management features.

James Yang, Head of Data Products at Huawei Technologies UK, said: "Our Quidway range is the result of ten continuous years of investment on IP products and has recently been awarded CMM level five software development accreditation - the world`s leading benchmarking standard for software development."

He went on to say: "This means that Huawei now offers a leading range of IP products, suitable for small business right up to high-end enterprise and carrier solutions, and we have proved that with over 200 000 successful installations worldwide."

BT Exact tested versions of the Quidway products equipped with Huawei`s most recent software release, which includes modifications to the Command Line Interface. The results of the tests were very positive and give a clear indication of the products` ability to meet the expectations of European service providers.

Tony Dann, head of IP test and evaluation at BT Exact, said: "Huawei`s new low- and middle-end Quidway routers performed very well in the stringent testing environment we set up. We tested the `must-have` features that service providers look for when evaluating and purchasing new equipment. The results demonstrate the products` ability to meet such expectations."
