The Huge Group has appointed Rajen Pillay to replace Anton Potgieter as MD in the company's subsidiary, Huge Telecom. Potgieter will remain the group's executive CEO.
"After listing, it was critical for me to drive the merger of the TelePassport and Centracell businesses into Huge Telecom hands-on. However, this process is now completed, and the group's requirement at this point is for me to drive our growth plans at a macro level, as well as to ensure succession in the business units," says Potgieter.
Pillay, who joined the Huge Group in March, believes the company's strategy is to be perfectly aligned to the unique South African telecommunications landscape.
He started his career in the PABX division of Siltek, moving on to become technical manager. He later joined Orion as a product development manager, then became national service manager. He was appointed as operations director in 2007, before moving to the Huge Group.
"Rajen's invaluable experience in the industry means he is exceptionally well placed to take over the day-to-day operational control of Huge Telecom, and we are fortunate to have effectively had him on board already for a few months."
The company has also appointed four regional directors to the board: Eugene Volschenk, Philip Stier, Geovanna Sutherland and Justin Hammett.
Says Potgieter: "As Huge Telecom grows from strength to strength, it is imperative to us that our regional offices can independently provide for their customers, have the flexibility to adapt to regional conditions, and move quickly to take advantage of new opportunities in these markets.
"Our four regional directors have 'earned their stripes' hands-on in Huge Telecom, and we could not wish for better team players in charge of our regions."
