Hughes set for AfricaCom 2012

Hughes Systems will showcase its latest technologies and solutions at AfricaCom 2012.

The satellite networks and services provider will hold five complimentary seminars at AfricaCom, which takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, from 13 to 15 November.

The seminars will cover the following topics:

* Future of Enterprise : Tuesday, 13 November, 2pm

Case studies across several vertical sectors, including financial, lottery/gaming and retail, will be presented from clients of Hughes who employ the company's satellite broadband technology for a wide range of mission-critical applications.

* Ka-Band Revolution: Tuesday, 13 November, 4pm

One of the most important trends in the satellite industry is the development of Ka-band networks. This workshop will cover Ka-band technology topics, including rain fade mitigation, how Ka-band enables high network capacity, and Ka-band ground system architectures.

* Satellite Backhaul for Cellular Services: Wednesday, 14 November, 10am

The capabilities and advantages of latest-generation satellite backhaul solutions, including trade-offs of SCPC versus TDMA, service quality and optimising cost benefits designed into a satellite-based solution, will be explored.

* Maritime and Mobility: Wednesday, 14 November, 2pm

This seminar will cover how maritime requirements are being met using high-performance yet affordable satellite technology.

* Oil and Gas Industry: Wednesday, 14 November, 4pm

With modern rigs functioning as complex data collection hubs, and pipelines that need monitoring 24/7 to ensure environmental safety and no service disruptions, this seminar will discuss how satellite can efficiently meet the needs of the industry.
