Hyperion, the world leader in business performance management software, has resisted market trends with its fourth-quarter and full-year results for the year ended June 30, 2002.
Total revenues for the quarter were $135,8 million, compared to $140 million for the same quarter a year ago and $120 million in the March quarter. Revenues for the full year were $492 million, compared to $528 million for fiscal 2001.
Net income for fiscal 2002 was $15,7 million or $0,47 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $31,1 million or $0,95 per diluted share for fiscal 2001.
Fourth-quarter software licence revenue totalled $61,1 million, compared to $63,5 million for the same period a year ago. This represents a 22% increase on the third quarter, ended 31 March.
"Hyperion has turned in another quarter of solid results, whose strength and quality must be assessed in the context of the very difficult economic environment," says Johan Cloete, CEO of GBI, Hyperion`s local partner. "While many companies in the IT sector are in complete disarray, Hyperion continues to perform well, an indication that customers are increasingly receptive to the benefits of its business performance management solutions.
"The demand for Hyperion solutions is underscored by the company`s sequential growth in licence revenue and 7% operating margin improvement."
The performance was driven largely by demand for the newest financial products, Hyperion Planning and Hyperion Financial Management.
"Customers are saying that business performance management is what they`ve been looking for as the right answer to many of their most pressing business and management problems," adds Cloete. "With our solutions, customers can gain increased visibility into company performance and accurately plan for the future, vital activities in today`s economy.
"We are experiencing sustained demand for Hyperion`s solutions in South Africa, a major factor in our growth," concludes Cloete.
Significant developments in the quarter included:
* Major customer wins at the Canada Life Assurance Company; Citigroup; Ethicon, a Johnson and Johnson company; Motorola; Northrop Grumman; Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; and Thyssen Krupp of Germany.
* 235 new customers during the fourth fiscal quarter, which contributed 44% of licence revenue.
* Introduced the Hyperion Business Performance Management Suite and the new platform, Hyperion Essbase XTD. This suite, which leverages XTD, comprises a family of applications that allows companies to set goals, plan targets, and measure, predict and report results in a collaborative way across an extended enterprise.
* Maintained leadership positions in the financial/business performance management and OLAP markets, according to research reports published by IDC.
* GBI is the business intelligence division of JSE Securities Exchange-listed Global Technology.
