Hyperion tackles data consistency with MDM server

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2005

Hyperion, distributed locally by Intellient, has improved the consistency of master data in organisations around the world, resulting in increased productivity, protected data integrity, reduced security and compliance costs, and reduced risk, with the application of its Master Data Management (MDM) Server.

The software helps to ensure consistency of all master data and data structures across business intelligence environments of any size, eliminating costly manual master data management processes.

"The business and IT challenges associated with the ongoing management of master data have plagued companies for years," says Henry Morris, group VP and GM of integration, development and application strategies at research firm IDC.

"Organisations finding success with Hyperion`s master data management technology illustrate the fact that proper planning and discipline enable significant progress to be made regarding business intelligence efforts and yields measurable benefits for both users and the business."

As a core service of the Hyperion Business Intelligence Platform, the Hyperion MDM Server moves the responsibility for managing change in master data from IT to the business user`s desktop and then automates these changes across the business. This gives line-of-business leaders and management a single point of control with accurate, timely updates that fully reflect the current state of the business.

The Hyperion MDM Server also allows business users to "point and sync" business performance management master data. Changes to hierarchies such as charts of accounts, financials, sales, organisational structures and products are automatically synchronised between various transactional and analytical systems in a controlled environment.

"MDM puts the control and ownership of business hierarchies back in the hands of the business users," says Marc Scheepbouwer, MD of Intellient. "The Hyperion MDM Server enables organisations to increase productivity by empowering users to speed essential processes while reducing reliance on IT resources; reduce security risk through the implicit ability to manage data from a broad range of external systems using established security guidelines; reduce compliance costs; and mitigate risks through comprehensive audit trails and accurate reporting."

Two organisations which have benefited are the National City Bank in the US and Telenor ASA in Norway. The National City Bank uses the Hyperion MDM Server to manage more than 20 000 transactions a month across 25 different hierarchies; while Telenor ASA, Norway`s largest telecommunications group, uses the Hyperion technology to deploy its self-service, single point-of-maintenance solution.
