Ian Melamed back as SA`s top information security man

Johannesburg, 21 Feb 2000

Ian Melamed, founder of JSE-listed SecureData which was recently acquired by ERP.com, has announced the formation of Ian Melamed Secure Computing. Melamed left SecureData after the acquisition, and through his new company is to provide a range of and services offerings that translate to a secure and reliable foundation for e-business.

"The highly publicised recent spate of attacks on e-business companies such as Amazon.com and Yahoo has highlighted the importance of ," says Melamed. "These attacks and the resultant damage and loss of corporate image were eminently preventable; it is our mission to ensure our clients are shielded from the many types of attack that can occur, so they can in turn provide an ongoing to their clients."

Melamed`s initial focus will be in the antivirus space, where he has become South Africa`s leading spokesperson and provider of solutions and data recovery services.

"Despite all the publicity in the antivirus software space, few companies have formulated effective and comprehensive antivirus policies. And where they have policies, these are typically not executed properly. In addition, the constant proliferation of new viruses places enormous pressure on companies to be on their guard. This is where we come in, providing peace of mind and relieving our clients of the burden and complexity associated with this environment."

To this end, Melamed is developing a range of applications that leverage the strengths of existing antivirus solutions. "We have the broadest knowledge and expertise of antivirus software, and which packages are best suited for solving particular problems. We will also combine them as required where they complement each other, and where clients have lost data through a virus-related issue, we will recover their data."

Melamed is soon to extend his security offerings to include remote backup, remote diagnostics, security audits, firewalls and more. It is engaging in a range of partnerships to provide this extended range of offerings and services.

"Information security has become a massively complex issue, but it is non-negotiable," says Melamed. "It is our objective to ensure that our clients can conduct their business with the knowledge that their information is secure."

Melamed has set up a dedicated number for companies with information security inquiries: 0861 011 011.
