iAnywhere Solutions, the mobile and wireless division of Sybase, has topped the mobile database market for the sixth year in a row. The company's SQL Anywhere Studio powers mobile, remote, embedded and workgroup database solutions across a range of industries including field service, transportation, retail, utilities, financial services, healthcare and government.
Mobile database management system (DBMS) giant Sybase was able to increase its share of the market from 68% in 2000 to 73% in 2001. As the global economy slowly pulls out of recession, the mobile DBMS market is expected to pick up fairly rapidly. Gartner is predicting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 16% through 2006. This will cause the market to more than double, from slightly under $70 million in 2001 to around $150 million in 2006.
iAnywhere Solutions has more than 700 application partners that embed its technology as a part of their software packages for resale, including sales force automation, field service, enterprise portal solutions and customer relationship management (CRM).
Carl Olofson, programme director for Information and Data Management Software Research at IDC, says: "The performance and usability enhancements in SQL Anywhere Studio strongly position iAnywhere Solutions to meet the unique needs of the mobile space."
SQL Anywhere Studio is the platform for extending enterprise data and information beyond corporate walls, powering solutions that improve productivity, streamline operations and create new revenue opportunities. It enables the rapid development of distributed e-business solutions, extending the reach of business information to anywhere business transactions occur.
Julie Tomlinson, sales and marketing manager at Sybase SA, notes: "With more than a decade's experience, iAnywhere Solutions has built a strong base of over 7 million deployed seats of its technology. Also key to its success are the strong relationships with 700 application partners who embed SQL Anywhere Studio in their solutions."
