IBM acquires PSS Systems

IBM bolstered its risk management software portfolio after acquiring PSS Systems, a provider of information governance software, reports IT Jungle.

With the company's Atlas Suite, IBM will offer its customers a way to minimise legal risk by disposing of potentially damaging information.

Atlas Suite of software aims to manage the lifecycle of records by categorising content, connecting the legal, IT, and records management departments of a large company, assigning retention schedules, and getting rid of unnecessary data.

Data breaches hit 40% of enterprises

McAfee has released research showing that 40% of medium enterprises have had breaches and 75% believe a serious data breach could put them out of business, states The Business Standard.

60% of worldwide organisations admitted to knowing less than 75% of the pertinent regulatory and requirements pertinent to their organisation.

Alex Thurber, senior VP of worldwide channel operations for McAfee, says: “The explosion and sophistication of malware impacts mid-sized organisations who are struggling to grow their businesses against a backdrop of competitive pressures and a slow economic recovery.”

Varonis boosts mailbox control

Data governance software provider Varonis Systems has extended its DatAdvantage software to Microsoft Exchange, says Kansas City.com.

According to the company, the platform delivers 70% time savings to performing Exchange management tasks such as mailbox access management, auditing and mailbox identification and tracking.

Vivian Tero, IDC's programme director for governance, risk and compliance infrastructure, says: “Exchange data is a tremendous challenge to manage because permissions are not often well maintained, activity is not easily tracked or analysed, and ownership for mailboxes and public folders is unknown.”
