IBM and Temenos have announced a global e-business alliance to jointly market Temenos` world-leading banking system, GLOBUS. In the terms of the agreement, Temenos will migrate GLOBUS to an extended range of IBM server and software offerings. The agreement opens up new markets for Temenos` partner and shareholder, Global Technology, most significantly making possible GLOBUS sales to the larger financial institutions that use mainframe technology.
Brian Moulds, IBM`s Financial Services Sector Director in South Africa, comments, "I am delighted that IBM and Global Technology, through Temenos, have signed this strategic alliance. The partnership between us will significantly increase our joint capability to deliver solutions to our financial services sector clients in southern Africa.
"To integrate front- and back-office systems, and to extend them to the Web quickly and effectively, can be a formidable challenge for financial institutions. Global Technology`s excellent implementation skills, added to the combination of an open and integrated package from Temenos, and IBM`s scalable and reliable technology and e-business and worldwide services expertise, results in a powerful, comprehensive solution for financial services customers around the world."
Ray Leonard, CEO of Global Technology and director of Temenos, adds, "Banking and financial institutions face immense challenges in becoming and remaining competitive. IBM and Temenos together provide the technology, software and services to make the difference. This, together with Global Technology`s years of experience in the financial services sector ensures that we offer an unbeatable solution."
Temenos will lead with IBM server and software offerings in sales to new customers. It will utilise IBM middleware, including WebSphere application software, and DB2 Universal Database, as well as S/390 and RS/600 servers in its development and marketing of GLOBUS. The move to adapt current and future GLOBUS technology to offerings within the IBM Application Framework for e-business provides a seamless growth path for financial institutions as they move to e-business.
GLOBUS is a fully integrated system that encompasses the many different elements within a banking organisation, and automates functions based on a straight-through workflow methodology. It enables banks and other financial institutions to automate their banking activities, such as wholesale, retail, treasury and private banking, as well as back-office functions, as they move to the Web.
GLOBUS is distributed across Africa by Global Technology and in Australia by Global Technology`s Australian arm, Solace Limited.
