IBM, BITF host international BEE mission

IBM and the Cape IT Initiative (CITI), in partnership with the Black IT Forum (BITF), will host the delegates from the global National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) in Johannesburg and Cape Town this week.

A group of 12 international delegates, representing 500 minority suppliers, will travel to SA to meet with black economic empowerment (BEE) companies and stakeholders, to explore business opportunities in the country and engage in discussions of mutual interest.

Eric Vicioso, director of international programmes for the NMSDC, will also travel to SA with the group.

The meetings in Johannesburg will take place at the Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) offices, IBM offices and the Hilton Hotel in Sandton. The meetings in Cape Town will take place at the Commodore Hotel, Wesgro and CITI offices.

The event, sponsored by Cisco Systems, IBM, Motorola and the NMSDC, will include a meeting with South African government officials, including the embassy`s minister counsellor for commercial affairs, Johnny E Brown, and the deputy minister of trade and industry, Elizabeth Thabethe.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to interact with Mthunzi Mdwaba, BITF Gauteng chairman and MD of Torque IT.

They will also meet with Jimmy Manyi, IBM SA director of BEE and corporate affairs; Mark Harris, IBM SA country GM; Harriet Michel, president of NMSDC; Tebogo Khaas, president of the SA SMME Forum; Malerato Nkone, SACF MD; and Buhle Mthethwa, secretary general of NAFCOC.
