IBM installs Windows
IBM has started installing a rapidly growing retail version of Windows in its computerised point-of-sale (POS) terminals and other devices it markets for use in retail stores and restaurants, says Computerworld.
IBM plans to offer Microsoft's Windows Embedded for Point of Service (Wepos) software in its SurePOS machines, as well as its self-service checkout systems and the interactive AnyPlace Kiosk product line.
Wepos, which is designed for smaller retail stores, is a three-year-old operating system that was updated by Microsoft last April.
Teknosa implements Oracle
Teknosa, a Turkish consumer electronics retail chain, has implemented Oracle Retail applications to support its expansion strategy and enhance service levels across its multiple sales channels, states FOXBusiness.
The implementation of the Oracle Retail merchandising system, Oracle Retail allocation and Oracle Retail category management is enabling Teknosa to optimise inventory management, allocation and replenishment across its e-commerce and telephone channels as well as its 230 stores as the retailer expands its operations across Turkey and neighbouring countries.
"The implementation of Oracle Retail applications is part of Teknosa's three-year transformation programme designed to implement efficiencies and best practices that will optimise our agility as we diversify our merchandise offerings, extend our domestic operations and expand into new territories," explained Mehmet Nane, GM of Teknosa.
Openbravo releases POS solution
Openbravo, a developer of Web-based open source ERP and POS solutions, has released Openbravo POS v2.0, open source POS software, according to Businesswire.
The new software is POS application that works with touch screens, ESC/POS receipt printers designed for high-volume retail and hospitality environments, and with bar code scanners to enable fast article entry in demanding retail areas.
Openbravo POS v2.0 includes new and enhanced features including easy-to-use buttons in the user interface, new reports for the restaurant module and a simplified sales process for weighted products.
