During the year 2000, organisations turned to IBM Mindspan Solutions in industry-leading numbers to help them plan for, create and deploy e-learning solutions.

Over the course of the year, IBM Mindspan Solutions helped more than 500 organizations in 54 countries implement e-learning initiatives, enabling them to solve mission-critical business problems, such as bringing products to market faster, while increasing competitive advantage, improving quality and productivity and lowering costs through the effective enablement of the workforce.

These customers took advantage of the full array of e-learning solutions offered by IBM Mindspan Solutions, including planning and design services, content capabilities, key technology drawn from Lotus LearningSpace and delivery capabilities.

Organisations adopting IBM Mindspan Solutions include seven of the top 10 US Airlines; seven of the top 10 US telecommunications companies; six of the top 10 worldwide automotive manufacturers; six of the top 10 worldwide commercial banks; three of the top five US insurance companies; three of the top five worldwide diversified financial institutions; three of the top 10 US pharmaceutical companies; and three of the top 10 US securities firms.

"We have implemented e-learning initiatives with more than 500 organisations over the past year," said Laura Sanders, vice president of IBM Mindspan Solutions. "The overwhelming demand for IBM Mindspan Solutions confirms the value organisations place on an integrated solution provider who can draw from a wealth of e-learning experience and industry-specific knowledge."

Global organisations succeed with IBM Mindspan Solutions

E-learning is fast becoming viewed by organisations as a mission-critical solution that can enable them to more quickly achieve their business goals. As such, these forward-thinking organisations have turned to IBM Mindspan Solutions as a trusted ally, tapping into the impressive depth and breadth of its e-learning experience and capabilities.

IBM has met the needs of the training marketplace for many years, and its 3 400 services practitioners, coupled with 15 custom content development locations, provide a global reach and industry expertise unmatched in the e-learning marketplace. Also, Lotus LearningSpace - which offers self-paced, collaborative and real-time learning experiences, tracking and management capabilities and seamless integration of course content and authoring tools - has more than two million licences worldwide, an indication of the high value organisations place on a flexible e-learning platform capable of offering multiple modes of delivery.

"American Airlines Flight Service Training was looking for a solution that would provide consistent training, while lowering costs and providing convenience to the user," said Barbara Patterson Manager, Flight Service Training Projects, American Airlines. "IBM Mindspan Solutions and the Lotus LearningSpace technology helped us develop a customised program that incorporated these three elements. Today, the e-learning program provides us with an effective way to manage the program and track results easily."

"DaimlerChryler Online improves the business-to-business communication between the dealer network and the manufacturer so that we can communicate, as staff members, to our customer base to tell them exactly what DaimlerChrysler is doing for the customer," said Hein Lorentz, principal at McCarthy Randburg, a DaimlerChrysler South Africa (DCSA) automobile dealer.

"The application eliminates the paperwork and information access hurdles involved in interacting with DCSA, the customer and the salesperson. Lotus has given us the power to provide a much higher level of customer service since the customer always knows where the vehicle is in the distribution process - the status of the vehicle and what features are included in the vehicle."

"We chose Lotus LearningSpace because it can provide a customised learning experience for each of our Employee Partners," said Mary Kramer, Learning Technologies manager, ClubCorp. "Students are automatically enrolled in courses relevant to their jobs; managers and executives can run reports for their specific property or region; and our course developers have the freedom to design and create courses that meet our students` unique needs."

The ability to run local CD-ROM or server-based course content using the LAN Launcher feature helped ClubCorp overcome limited bandwidth constraints normally associated with Web-based training systems. It even customised the user interface. No other system it evaluated gave the company this level of control over how it delivers online training.

"We are fully aware that an empowered and knowledgeable workforce is our core strategy for strong and consistent competitiveness," said Kang Moon-Hwan, General Manager of e-learning, LG Electronics. "IBM Mindspan Solutions has provided the e-learning solution that allows us to develop an international Global Learning Portal that will keep our distributed workforce educated."

"We were looking to use e-learning in order to provide a more efficient and time-independent way of training suppliers and customers," said Jim Frome, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of SPS Commerce. "We selected IBM Mindspan Solutions because of its Web-based e-learning management capabilities via LearningSpace, the ability to implement on an extranet basis, and its strong track record in the e-learning industry. As a result, we are able to train more suppliers and customers in less time by using self-study as well as multi-supplier sessions in combination with live virtual classroom sessions."

"Dal-tile needed an e-learning solution that would allow our channel of dealers and designers to learn the manufacturing, product information, sales and maintenance for the residential market," said Henry Behgam, head of e-commerce, supply chain planning and sales at Dal-tile. "We were looking for a company that could help design a solution versus simply selling us a product. IBM Mindspan Solutions helped us create a total e-learning solution that included custom content and provided the delivery vehicle, LearningSpace that will ultimately help secure the marketshare needed to compete in the residential market."
