IBM names Datacentrix as x440 partner

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 2002

Infrastructure and IT solutions provider, Datacentrix has been named as one of only four local organisations allowed to offer IBM`s xSeries 440 servers.

Says Dion Visagie, business unit manager at Datacentrix: "This development in our relationship with IBM is critical to Datacentrix, as it means that we can provide a rack-optimised machine that provides the availability, redundancy and scalability previously only found in the mainframe environment.

"The x440`s modular, highly reliable architecture allows customers to pay for computing power incrementally, as needed. Its consolidation aspect is also particularly important for customers who are struggling to manage a great number of servers. By consolidating everything onto one server, these companies stand to save money and less resources are needed to manage equipment," Visagie explains.

"With our appointment as one of only a handful of x440 server providers, we can easily differentiate ourselves within the South African marketplace, while concurrently providing the best solution to our users," he adds.

According to Chad Baker, xSeries manager for South and Central Africa at IBM, Datacentrix`s commitment to IBM is apparent with this appointment. "To be selected as an xSeries 440 partner, organisations must make substantial commitments upfront, including intensive sales and technical training."

Baker maintains that Datacentrix`s selection in this arena was based not only on their strong existing relationship with IBM, but also the availability of necessary skills and infrastructure. "The fact that Datacentrix is one of IBM`s core x-Series partners is significant as it means that we can rely on the organisation to assist IBM in growing x440`s market share in both larger and mid-sized local corporates.

"IBM believes that Datacentrix is a key local partner, and hopes that our relationship will develop from strength-to-strength with our new endeavour," he concludes.
