IBM offers social media analytics tools

IBM is betting its social analytics tools, dubbed IBM Connections, will find signals to highlight everything from employee sentiment to market trends via unstructured , SAP applications and Facebook posts.

The New York Times says since 2005, IBM has spent more than $14 billion on 25 companies that specialise in data mining and analytics.

“The intelligence being built into the can be applied inside a company or out in the marketplace,” explains Alistair Rennie, IBM GM of social business software.

IBM is building on all its assets in collaboration technology, document management and data analysis to create what it hopes will become the dominant enterprise social software platform, Information Week states.

IBM is offering social media analytics from Cognos, which can be applied both internally and externally. The next version of IBM Connections will include integrated analytics for providing metrics on the performance of the social network itself, such as user engagement.
