MTNL cancels 3G outsourcing initiative
India's state-owned mobile communications operator MTNL has cancelled plans to hand over the management of its 3G network to Virgin Mobile and Spice Group, says Cellular News.
MTNL had been seeking an outsourcing partner to take over the running of its 3G networks in Delhi and Mumbai due to low subscriber uptake. Since the tender was announced, the company has since seen a surge in subscribers.
"We may issue a fresh tender after government approval. We are still open to the concept of outsourcing our 3G networks," says Kuldeep Singh, MTNL's MD and chairman.
