IBM platform targets enterprise collaboration
IBM is targeting its Workplace platform at enterprise collaboration, but the killer app for Workplace may be multi-enterprise collaboration, SearchDomino.com reports.
At least, that`s the prediction of Alex El Homsi, president and CEO of Trilog Group, a Burlington, MA, ISV that has just released one of those solutions for Workplace: ProjExec3.0, a solution for multi-enterprise project management problems.
When different organisations are involved with project management, different information systems, infrastructures, directories, even different processes and cultures result, says Homsi.
Once information crosses from one enterprise to another, ownership and security concerns result, says Homsi.
"The one thing we can do is improve the technology infrastructure by providing a secure virtual workplace for co-locating distributed project teams - in short, providing a hosted portal that sits outside the IT infrastructure and provides a secure place for sharing information."
Workplace already has enterprise collaboration, but Homsi goes so far as to say that "the killer app for Workplace may be multi-enterprise collaboration."

"Project managers, consultants, trainers and students will be able to immediately download a complete project management methodology for use within their project environment," says Jason Westland, CEO and founder of Method123.
Borland buys project management suite
US-based Borland Software has acquired Legadero, a small privately held company, to fill out Borland`s line of software development tools, ZDNet.com reports.
With the purchase of the 20-person company, Borland will gain a set of so-called IT governance applications for managing software development projects. Borland intends to immediately re-brand the Legadero products as Borland Tempo and integrate the company`s software with its own suite of application lifecycle tools.
Legadero`s software is used to manage software development projects within corporations. It provides tools for viewing the status of projects, prioritising tasks and managing requests for changes.
