IBM SA, JMR Software in joint e-business initiative to Web-enable legacy applications

JMR Software and IBM iSeries have announced a joint e-business solution based on the Novation suite of software solutions from GT Software and IBM enterprise servers. The solution brings legacy systems to the Web quickly and effectively.

"Web-enablement is becoming critical for companies to remain competitive and to take full advantage of the benefits offered by the Web. However, the demand to address new business drivers, while taking advantage of existing installed applications, can cause major headaches in companies," said Leon Theron, Director of JMR Software.

JMR Software and IBM have addressed these issues by developing a real-time intelligent integration solution for accessing legacy transactions or data with minimal modification to legacy systems, thus preserving business logic.

"The joint JMR Software/IBM e-business solution provides current applications and data rapidly to users on the Web, without companies having to dispose of existing systems and competencies," said Theron.

"In the move forward to e-enablement, problems are often experienced with data replication, migration and synchronisation because of the amount of data being transferred and extensive transfer times," Theron said.

Security issues and integration requiring host programming also increase cost and timeframes expand.

With a proven low-risk approach, JMR Software and IBM offer the ability to enhance legacy applications either in legacy environment or on a browser platform, to support more dynamic requirements using the Novation suite of legacy integration technologies.

The cost-effective solution saves time by employing a highly effective compression method and ID access profiles and passwords ensures security of data being accessed, retrieved and modified.

The concerns most companies have are easily solved with Novation`s VisualConnect and DatAcess products, which easily convert cumbersome and complex screens into graphically intuitive Web front-ends, without programming. Benefits include:

* Skipping unwanted screens and merging data and fields into new screens, enhancing and rejuvenating S/390 and AS/400 based applications for increased productivity;

* Data can be read modified or written to the S/390 and AS/400 applications without changing the underlying legacy application code;

* Supports all popular Web servers: WebSphere, Apache, IIS and iPlanet;

* Uses a common Visual editor, which is a cross-platform Java application;

* Reads or updates any host data using SQL commands;

* High performance, bi-directional access to real-time data;

* Universal client connection;

* Operates with zero latency; and

* Selection and suppression of data transfer are automatic and can be integrated into any ODBC resources.

JMR Software`s expertise in implementing Novation provides a true evolutionary path to move from legacy programming languages to Java solutions without heavy cost or learning curves.

Enhancing this unique solution is the IBM iSeries. The servers are built to handle the increasing demands of today`s multi-workload environment, where core business applications must operate with new e-business solutions.
