IBM unveils $42m cloud centre

IBM has opened one of the most advanced computing facilities in Canada, the IBM Compute Cloud Centre, giving businesses another option for keeping their in Canada, writes Telemanagement.

The new $42 million centre aims to allow Canadian businesses to develop, host and test applications while paying only for the computational power they use.

A big part of the value proposition is the fact that confidential information is protected and kept resident in Canada in accordance with Canadian privacy laws.

Sweden warns against cloud

Companies, particularly those in the IT industry, that use cloud services, in which applications and files are stored with large centres instead of on their own computers and accessed through the Internet, are especially at risk, reveals The Local.

The Swedish Fortifications Agency is warning companies to take extra precautions if they rent data storage space from external providers.

"It's something we've discovered and we want people to be aware of, but it's not normally our job to look at companies' like that. It's not really our thing to actually go through companies and see what their security levels are like," Catharina Millmarker, press secretary of the agency, told The Local.
