IBM updates Cognos tools

IBM has released a number of updates to its performance management software, promising to help CFOs get a better grasp of business analytics, writes V3.

The firm claims new features in IBM Cognos TM1 and IBM Cognos 8 Controller will cut planning cycles in half, and reduce reporting cycles from days to minutes.

IBM adds that organisations adopting the new tools will be able to handle demands for real-time while reducing their budgets.

Server eases BI loading

Datawatch wants to eliminate the need to load data into a separate data warehouse to run a business intelligence report, says CTO Edge.

With the delivery of version 5.0 of the Monarch Business Intelligence Enterprise Server, formerly known as Datawatch ES, users can access a customisable user interface and generate reports in a standard Microsoft Excel format.

This latter capability is potentially critical because many other BI solutions are essentially advocating for the elimination of personal productivity tools in BI applications. Conversely, the Datawatch approach allows users to load data into the server in any format.

Open source BI aids air travellers

Infrastructure company Swissport will use Pentaho's open source BI suite as its standard corporate management reporting environment, claiming the roll-out will cut the cost of flying, states Computing.co.uk.

Although not a household name, Swissport provides customer airline services such as passport check-in and lost-and-found online luggage tracing.

Swissport also has a presence at more than 170 airports worldwide, providing services for 600 airlines, including aircraft pushback, cargo handling and de-icing.
