IBM X-Architecture technology is a blueprint for extending the benefits of advanced mainframe-inspired technologies to Intel processor-based servers. These technologically advanced servers are available from Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of JSE-listed MB Technologies.
The benefits of these technologies allow for enhanced availability and scalability, systems management, service and support of the servers.
"IBM has been delivering on the promise of the X-Architecture model since 1998 with such innovative technologies as Active PCI, C2T Interconnect cabling, Chipkill memory, Predictive Failure Analysis, Light Path Diagnostics and IBM Director Software Rejuvenation to name but a few," says Drikus van der Walt, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies.
"The X-Architecture blueprint has now been extended with Enterprise X-Architecture technologies," Van der Walt continues. "The Enterprise version features advances that enhance the capabilities of I/O, memory and performance in xSeries servers."
Memory enhancements include a large capacity to support up to 256GB memory and high-speed double data rate (DDR) memory that supports both PC200 and standard ECC SDRAM memory. Memory ProteXion and Chipkill memory correct virtually all memory errors.
The peerless new server design creates a flexible, adaptable "pay as you grow" approach to buying high-end 32- and 64-bit systems. The XpandOnDemand feature allows users to upgrade processors, I/O slots and other resources via modular external cabinets so they can start small and extend as they need to. "Enterprise X-Architecture technologies ensure that systems can now be scaled quickly, easily and inexpensively," concludes Van der Walt.
