The Independent Communications Authority of SA's (ICASA's) newest councillor, Ntombizodwa Ndhlovu, will be sworn in today and take up her seat on the nine-member council.
A statement issued today by the regulator says Ndhlovu will have the oath of office administered to her at ICASA's offices, in Sandton.
Ndhlovu worked as a legal advisor for mobile network operator MTN before taking up her ICASA appointment. She was selected, along with two other new councillors, by Parliament and communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda, in June.
During her public interviews, Ndhlovu stated she had not worked on MTN's submission to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications during the heated debate surrounding the high cost of interconnection charged by the mobile operators.
During her interview with Parliament in June, Ndhlovu admitted to having received MTN shares as part of a staff incentive scheme, but committed herself to disposing of them before she took up her appointment as councillor.
“We are looking forward to having the third councillor, Ndhlovu, joining the authority in order to help us make sure the electronic communications industry is regulated in the public interest.
“Like the other two councillors that were sworn-in late last month, councillor Ndhlovu brings with her a great a wealth of knowledge and skills to ICASA; and we will make sure she uses those skills to serve the people of SA,” says ICASA chairperson Dr Stephen Mncube.
