A group of around 50 Communication Workers` Union members took a group of management hostage at the ICASA offices in Catherine Street, Sandton, to demand wage increases.
94.7 Highveld Stereo reported earlier that there were five members of senior management held in the offices. Most of ICASA`s senior management is based at the Sandton offices, but it is not clear who was held over the wage issue.
The majority of workers were apparently protesting and toyi-toying outside the building while tempers flared inside the offices, as shop stewards argued with management.
According to security at Pin Mill Farm, tempers frayed this afternoon, with shop stewards locking management members in and demanding a decision on wage increases. However, when the police arrived, ICASA officials told them they would manage the situation themselves.
The ICASA officials negotiated their own release and the protesting workers dispersed late this afternoon. The wage talks are set to resume on Monday.
