ICASA staff picket for bonus payout

Staff members of the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) picketed outside the regulator`s premises on Friday, protesting against a delay in the payout of performance-based bonuses.

Jubie Matlou, spokesman for ICASA, says the majority of its 200 staff took part in the short strike action. He explains that the performance-based bonuses have not been paid out because staff members` performance has not been evaluated this year, due to an omission by management.

The ICASA council has, however, undertaken to work out a framework that will be used as a basis for the payout, he says, implying that bonuses will not be performance-based this year.

Matlou adds that no timeframes have been set as to when the framework would be finalised and bonus payouts made. He also did not give an indication of the criteria that would be used to determine the payouts.
