ICL (SA) has been appointed a channel partner by Orca Technologies, the data storage manufacturing company in the CCH Group. ICL is the first of Orca`s channel partners to sell, support and maintain the Orca range of SCSI and fibre-connect external data storage solutions.
The local content of Orca makes it highly desirable in the public services market and is certain to boost ICL`s competitiveness when bidding for state tenders, says CCH executive chairman, Mario Pinheiro. "Local content is becoming a key criterion in government`s purchasing policy and the Orca partnership will strengthen ICL`s solution offering to government."
"Storage and data management has become a strategic issue in the market sectors that ICL focuses on, particularly in the public services," says ICL GM, business offerings, Dilley Naidoo. "As importantly, ICL positions itself as an IT services company focusing on the new wave in technology applications, including e-business, customer relationship marketing and strategic applications. All of these have huge data storage and management requirements, and Orca is the perfect fit."
Naidoo said that ICL SA has a long association with local innovators - the company owns 100% of Natech, the developers of the IEC`s "zip-zap" barcode reader and till-point card readers. "We put Orca through its paces over a period of several months and were impressed with its performance, reliability and the fact that, technologically, it is a leader in storage," says Naidoo. "In addition we were comfortable with the Orca distribution model, which focuses on supporting value added resellers such as ourselves and targeting niche markets."
