ICL, DCC power World Summit

ICL and Drive Control Corporation (DCC) helped power the recent World Summit on sustainable development by supplying both Nasrec and the Sandton Convention Centre with uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) from APC.

With over 60 000 delegates visiting SA, it was crucial to have a smooth running system for delegate registration at the event. A key element of this was guarding against any interruption in power, which could result in loss.

The products ICL implemented for delegate registration at the World Summit comprised a Sun Micro system at both Nasrec and the Sandton Convention Centre, running Oracle. It was crucial to ensure that the systems would not crash and corrupt any of the information.

"Three APC UPS systems were required for the World Summit. One was used at Nasrec and the other two at the Sandton Convention Centre," says Shane Rowan, APC product manager at DCC.

"The equipment was supplied and implemented within 48 hours of being requested," he says.

"Having a UPS is a form of insurance," comments Rowan. "The server size determines the UPS size and model as well as the 'stand by time` of the UPS after a power failure."

With the APC UPS, the user receives a two-year on-site warranty as well as technical support.
