ICL launches Solutions Business Unit

Johannesburg, 21 Jul 2003

In line with acquiring major new software distributorships, ICL has launched a Solutions Business Unit. The unit will market the newly acquired KVS Enterprise Vault e-mail archiving software, Meridio document and records management product and WebAsset, ICL`s locally developed asset management product.

Newly appointed business unit manager Kethan Parbhoo said the division will sell and market the products through the channel. ICL has appointed a select number of resellers who will focus on specific vertical markets and regions, and work in partnership with ICL, adding value.

"In terms of the new ECT Act, both Meridio and KVS Enterprise Vault will enable ICL to assist companies in meeting the legal requirements for the archiving of e-mail, documents and records," explained Parbhoo.

Chief technology officer Mike Ross said all three products represent the best available solutions in their specific markets.

"We have already been successful in providing customers with significant cost benefits in our Microsoft Solution division. The division has successfully provided Microsoft licensing services, support and consultancy on products such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL, XP, Windows 2000 and NT. Now the KVS, Meridio and WebAsset solutions will provide the potential for significant growth in this division," he explained.

"KVS is the global market leader in email archiving and has the largest customer base with more than a million licences sold. KVS`s Enterprise Vault is already recognised as the only logical choice for e-mail archiving on the Microsoft platform. It enables companies to efficiently protect and access unstructured corporate information while retaining its relevant context," Ross explained.

Meridio, a document and record management engine, is particularly suitable for underpinning e-government and e-business systems. Meridio acts as a secure repository for as many electronic documents and as many types as required across the enterprise.

"Over the last three years Meridio has emerged to become one of the industry leaders in document and records management winning the Document Management Project of the year award in 2000, the Document Management Product of the year award for its Integrated Electronic Records Management software product, Meridio RM in 2001 and in 2002 was awarded the IM2002 award for Document Management product of the year," added Pharboo.

"Meridio comprises many flexible and powerful mechanisms for indexing and locating information. It supports access to information via diverse channels and from other line-of-business applications, all subject to secure access controls," he explained.

"WebAsset is an asset management solution developed by ICL that will track any asset," he explained. "WebAsset provides a simple method for asset accounting across all types of equipment from tables and chairs to IT equipment. It simplifies financing and auditing procedures and is less time-consuming for asset value verification," added Ross.

WebAsset is based on a Microsoft platform consisting of SQL, IIS and is accessed via a Web browser.

The software has now been extended to cover other business environments. It can now be used to track any type of movable or immovable asset.
