ICL has launched a System Health Check service that provides a broad assessment of IT environments, highlights possible poor performance areas and offers recommendations to ensure optimal performance in IT management and operation.
The service can be done bi-annually or annually depending on company-specific requirements.
"The System Health Check Service can be carried out on various platforms, operating systems and environments, including Solaris, SCO products, Linux and Microsoft," explained ICL business unit manager Daryl Blundell.
"The main business benefit is the identifying of security, performance and availability problems before they affect critical operations," Blundell said.
Feedback is also given with regard to issues such as power, air-conditioning and UPS performance. It covers daily running of the system, its management, operating system, machine performance and general security.
The service gives customers the ability to control and manage access to their system and help expose unauthorised access, institute password aging, role-based security and expose potential `holes` and threats.
"We report on the computer room environment, cabling, cleanliness and access control, and provides feedback on the restorability of backups. Recommendations are given on backup cycles and offsite storage," said Blundell.
In addition, the service analyses network setup and how the network interacts with WAN/LAN, routing, port scan errors, gateway information and checks for duplicate IP addresses.
Other benefits include:
a. External auditors often require this report
b. Expert recommendations are given for addressing problems and optimising performance
c. System management costs can be cut by reducing the time required to collect and diagnose performance data
d. Complements internal resources without increasing headcount or investing in costly tools and training
