ICL SA and DataSecure join forces to deliver security-enabled e-commerce

Johannesburg, 07 Apr 1999

IT services company, ICL South Africa, has entered into a strategic alliance with internet and network security solutions provider, DataSecure, to deliver security-enabled e-commerce solutions to both companies` customer bases - and the broader business community.

The alliance, which follows the successful joint-hosting of a high-level seminar on security in the e-commerce environment earlier this month, is effective 1 April and will see ICL SA and DataSecure pool resources to promote the advantages of e-commerce. It will also provide consultancy services with regard to e-business policies and their impact on the business processes within an organisation, and highlight how its use can lead to an increase in business and profits.

ICL SA general manager for business offerings, Dilley Naidoo, says the alliance will capitalise on the synergies that exist between ICL`s i500 enterprise directory server and DataSecure`s range of product-independent security services and technologies in the network environment.

"ICL SA and DataSecure share the view that the role of e-commerce will become of paramount importance in companies` business strategies today and into the new millennium. But we also understand that security is an aspect that is essential for the successful implementation of an e-business strategy," says Naidoo.

He adds that, as such, much of the alliance`s focus in the way forward will be on sitting down with customers, obtaining a clear understanding of their e-business needs, and packaging a tailored strategy that delivers on these needs.

The ICL i500 directory is a global directory server that offers the speed and scalability large organisations require for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and X.500 directories, while DataSecure`s commitment to best-of-breed technologies and a host of supportive services delivers solutions such as firewalling, intrusion detection, virtual private networking, digital certificates and public key infrastructures, and secure and encrypted applications such as e-mail and Web access.

"The strategic alliance thus holds the edge in protecting your network, delivering certification authority, and positioning companies for growth - comfortable in the knowledge that everything`s in place for ongoing, secure electronic commerce," concludes Naidoo.
