Security-enabled e-commerce was the focus of yesterday`s ICL seminar at the company`s Rivonia headquarters, during which experts from as far afield as the UK and Finland discussed the latest issues regarding this topic.

The event kicked off with Dilley Naidoo, ICL GM for Marketing and Sales, stating that ICL is aiming to become known as an IT solutions and services company. Naidoo said that personal attention must be the focus of attaining the goals set by ICL. He also noted that security is an aspect that is essential for the successful implementation of an e-business strategy.

Niall Moynihan, technical business and development manager for Check Point UK, said the company`s goal is to secure and optimise the Internet Protocol.

"We must strive towards developing a strategy for what the customer wants and needs. For too long the saying has been that the network runs the administrators. We must change it so that it is the administrators that run the network," said Moynihan.

Tim Ellis, MD of the SA Certification Agency (SACA), discussed the use of Public Key Infrastructure solutions for secure e-commerce.

"We put our trust in real-life transactions, ie we trust IDs and passports as proof of identification. When it comes to the online world, however, we are not necessarily so trusting. SACA seeks to change that by going from user anonymity to identity," said Ellis.
