Cape Town-based Universal LAN Technologies (ULT) and ICL have formed a partnership in which ULT will market Information Builders` business integration offerings.
In mid-2002, ICL and ULT began exploring a relationship that would provide ULT`s customers with a systems integration offering and ICL with a marketing channel in the Cape.
"Information Builders is a leader in business intelligence solutions, and through a subsidiary company named iWay Software, has an impressive business integration strategy. ICL is the sole agent for Information Builders and iWay Software in southern Africa," explained ULT product champion Paul Webel.
ULT was formed in 1991 and is a member of the UTH Holdings group of companies. ULT positions itself as an IT solutions and service provider to medium and large organisations in sub-Saharan Africa. Its strategy is defined in three focus areas: information delivery technologies, business processing and back-end data management.
Webel added: "ULT has long looked for an integration offering for its clients that run multiple back-end systems on disparate platforms. This offering was found in the iWay product range."
He said iWay was carefully chosen because it is a leading-edge, tried and proven and yet cost-effective technology. Due to the flexibility and open nature of the technology, we believe that the vast majority of companies in the South African market will derive substantial benefit from the deployment of iWay.
"In addition, given the strength of this offering plus the substantial benefits offered by WebFOCUS, the MIS and business intelligence sister application to iWay, integration, ETL and MIS reporting is now an affordable and practical reality for medium and large companies in SA," explained Webel.
Under the current arrangement, ICL supplies the technical resources for implementation of the technologies.
"However, ULT`s knowledge of the environment and functionality has undergone a steep growth curve through the sales training and collateral that has been provided. In addition, they add value through the experience they have in project and business process management," explained ICL`s marketing communications manager, System Integration and Business Intelligence, Tony Cross.
