ICT central to managing costs

Data management company, Informatica, has outlined public sector ICT predications for the year and has called for the better use of data, reports Public Technology.net.

According to Informatica, ICT will be central to managing cost reductions in both business and public sector organisations.

Mark Seager, Informatica vice-president technology Europe, Middle East and Africa, says database integration would enable organisations to identify opportunities and reap rewards over the next year. “Alignment is key to keeping integrated and in sync so business users know they can trust the to be relevant and accurate.”

Nigeria spurs ICT growth

The Nigerian telecom sector is undergoing rapid transformation due to explosive growth and infrastructure development, states TMCnet.

With rapidly improving mobile infrastructure and intense competition among mobile operators, the number of mobile subscribers in Nigeria will grow at a double-digit CAGR between 2010 and 2013.

The level of competition in the telecom sector is expected to intensify as private operators look for enhanced telecom services to boost their revenue from mobile and Internet services.

Philippine city keen on cloud

The Philippines' second-largest city, Cebu City, intends to move its information management systems into the cloud, but has expressed concerns due to a lack of standards as well as the country's political framework, says CMS Wire.

According to William Artajo, head of the City Government's Management Information and Computer Services department, cost savings is the main driver of interest in cloud computing.

While there are national government agencies that run nationwide ICT programmes, local governments each have their own way of dealing with content and information. One of the challenges is that the country's cities use different software and methodologies for keeping track of information.
