ICT development strategies finalised
International Telecommunications Union's (ITU's) African region preparatory meeting for the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2010 (WTDC) held in Kampala, Uganda, saw delegates reaching consensus on regional strategies, says Guardian Newspapers.
The agreed strategies and priorities will serve as inputs to next year's WTDC and to foster the development of ICTs throughout Africa.
A high-level panel took place on the first day, during which participants took stock of the impact of the global financial crisis on ICT development in Africa, and considered how ICT could be leveraged to jump-start growth and development going forward.
Businesses focus on individuals
Businesses are becoming increasingly keen to focus their attention on specific individuals rather than wide groups of people, reports Experian.
This is the view of market research group Frost & Sullivan, which says companies are very keen to interact with customers and gauge their opinions.
Andrew Milroy, head of ICT at Frost & Sullivan, says this feedback is being used to allow firms to engage with people further in a more targeted and relevant way.
Lawmakers propose texting ban
US states would be required to ban driving while texting or face the loss of highway funds under legislation being pushed by a group of Democratic senators, states Breaking News 24/7.
Aimed at reducing driver distraction and highway deaths and injuries, the proposal follows a series of studies showing the dangers of drivers taking their eyes off the road to operate the handheld electronic devices.
Fourteen states and the District of Columbia have passed laws making texting while driving illegal.
