ICT to host SIM workshop

As e-communication becomes a vital part of our everyday lives, so the SIM (takes its place in the spotlight. In order to provide a better understanding of the SIM and SIM solutions, ICT is holding a three-day SIM workshop (28th, 29th & 30th August) at Glenburn Lodge, Muldersdrift.

This innovative workshop, hosted by ICT, the smart IT solutions provider, will feature both local and international speakers and will include topics such as the much talked about evolution to UMTS, SIM Application Toolkit, Java Card, the SIM production process, and the SIM`s role in WAP, WIM, WIG and STK.

International speakers include Dr Klaus Vedder, Chairman of ETSI`s SMG 9 "SIM Aspects" Committee and Executive Vice President - Telecommunications at Giesecke & Devrient in Germany, as well as David Thorberg from Sweden`s Across . Local speakers include experts in the field of GSM and SIM production from Siemens SA, BN Card Technologies and ICT.

Not concentrating solely on SIM theory, demonstrations of products as well as tours of a SIM production facility will form part of the three-day workshop.

"This workshop aims to provide a broader understanding of the SIM to people already in the industry as well as those wishing to find out more about the revolution in telecommunications, particularly within the GSM market," explains Patricia Simeons, manager: BU Telecommunications Africa. "As our world becomes more e-enabled, it is imperative that people have a complete understanding of the SIM, its origins and its capabilities."
