IDC Appoints two new senior vice presidents

Names new management for key research areas
Johannesburg, 12 Feb 1999

International Data Corporation (IDC), the world`s most comprehensive resource on worldwide IT markets, today announced the promotions of Dr. Anthony C. Picardi and Alexa McCloughan to the title of Senior Vice President. The company also announced the appointment of Crawford Del Prete to the post of Group Vice President.

Dr. Anthony C. Picardi, who has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Worldwide Software Research, was formerly Group Vice President of the same research area. He has 24 years of experience in the software tools and consulting business, including positions with Pilot Executive Software and Cortex Corporation. He won the IDC Peacock Award for professional excellence in market research and has grown the IDC software research franchise by a factor of 40 to a global practice covering over 100 markets on four continents. His current research focus is the ongoing paradigm shift to CyberSmart Computing and the opportunities for software vendors and their ecosystems. Dr. Picardi earned B.S. and M.S degrees in civil engineering and a Doctor of Science in systems analysis from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Picardi joined IDC in 1990.

Alexa McCloughan was promoted to the newly created position of Senior Vice President for IDC`s Investment and IT Advisor Research. Ms. McCloughan, formerly a Group Vice President, will remain a Research Advisor to IDC`s Storage research and will continue to oversee IDCInquire, IDC`s dedicated, fast-response analyst resource team. She has approximately 15 years of industry experience and joined IDC in 1990 from Goldman Sachs, where she spent six years as a securities analyst responsible for research coverage of the storage industry. At IDC, Ms. McCloughan has dramatically raised IDC`s visibility within the financial community, making this one of IDC`s fastest-growing global product areas. Ms. McCloughan received her B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College and was awarded the C.F.A designation in 1983.

"The addition of these two dynamic leaders to our senior management team reflects IDC`s continually evolving research focus, as we continue to identify opportunities and provide insight across all segments of the IT industry," said Kirk Campbell, President/CEO. "Tony and Alexa are seasoned industry experts and customer-focused business managers who will continue IDC`s thought leadership in their areas."

New Management for Systems Research

Crawford Del Prete, formerly Vice President of IDC`s Storage and Semiconductor research, has been promoted to the newly created position of Group Vice President for all Systems, Semiconductor, and Storage research, including the Commercial Systems and Servers, Workstations and High-Performance Systems, Asset Management, and Channels research programs. In his new position, Mr. Del Prete will continue to oversee and contribute to the Storage and Semiconductor research areas. Mr. Del Prete has managed IDC`s U.S. and European Storage research since 1993. In that time, these programs have grown to be one of IDC`s largest research areas, with industry leading coverage of the storage mechanism and storage system markets. For the last two years, Mr. Del Prete has overseen the rapid growth of IDC`s Semiconductor research group. He has been at IDC since 1988 and holds a B.A. from Michigan State University.

Additionally, Debra Goldfarb has assumed management of three new research areas ? Worldwide Commercial Systems and Servers, Asset Management, and Channels. Ms. Goldfarb brings over 10 years of research and analysis experience to the Worldwide Commercial Systems and Servers program, most recently serving as IDC`s Vice President managing Workstations and High-Performances Systems research. Tom Copeland, formerly Director of Workstation Research, has been named to replace Ms. Goldfarb as Vice President, Workstations and High-Performance Systems.

The new leadership organization came as a result of the announced departure of David Vellante, Senior Vice President, Systems, Software, Storage, and Semiconductor Research, who is leaving the company to launch a new phase in his career by starting a software company.

"Dave has made significant contributions to IDC during the past 15 years, not the least of which has been to build a strong team of business managers who are ready to continue IDC`s tradition of providing the highest quality analysis and consulting to our customers worldwide," said Kirk Campbell, President and CEO.
