According to a recent IDC study, SAS continues to lead the overall business intelligence and statistical/data analysis market globally, with close to 10% of the market.
The study estimates the worldwide information access tools (IAT) market, comprising business intelligence, statistical/data analysis, and other tools, totalled $4.54 billion in 2001. Business intelligence includes end user query/reporting, OLAP, data mining, packaged data warehouse, and EIS. (Source: IDC: Information Access Tools Worldwide Forecast and Analysis: 2002-2006.) SAS continues to lead analytic markets with the top market share (38.3%) in data mining, as well as statistical and technical data analysis (25.5%).
"SAS has distinguished itself as the overall leader in the IAT category, with 9.9%, because it goes beyond simple query and reporting functionality to include data mining and analytics," says Henry Morris, IDC's group vice president for Applications and Information Access.
"As businesses look to leverage existing information and answer complex business questions, they will benefit by applying the advanced analytics and data mining that SAS provides."
SAS is the only vendor of business intelligence software able to provide technology and solutions that deliver proven value across the whole process of generating intelligence - which SAS calls the intelligence value chain - as well as domain expertise that is delivered through SAS methodologies, models and packaged industry solutions.
"Business users today demand intelligence to be accurate and timely," says Bill Hoggarth, managing director of SAS Institute SA. "As a new generation of business intelligence emerges, companies clearly need proven applications built on top of an infrastructure that leverages existing investments in hardware, ERP systems and database software, for example.
"They look for solutions that offer rapid return on investment while meeting the unique needs of their industry today and tomorrow. And they want a vendor that can provide and support integrated and flexible technologies across an intelligence value chain - from extraction to storage, to query and reporting and advanced analytics.
"Generating intelligence that answers complex questions is a process that requires more than mere query and reporting tools, which some have labelled business intelligence," says Hoggarth.
"Five years ago, SAS saw the beginning of a shift away from the pure tools marketplace to higher value applications when we began building our analytic applications on top of our agile intelligence architecture. Analytical technology - especially predictive analytics - is key to ensuring quality intelligence that results in better business decisions. SAS also developed a suite of applications on top of these tools and technologies that help businesses answer complex business questions."
SAS is the market leader in providing a new generation of business intelligence software and services that create true enterprise intelligence.
