Leading IT market research advisory firm, IDC, has recognised Sybase iAnywhere as a leading player in the mobile middleware market, for the sixth consecutive year.
According to IDC, this market was worth US$775.7 million in 2007, up from U$666.9 million in 2006. IDC currently forecasts this market to increase to US$1.6 billion in 2012, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.2% from 2007-2012.
Says Julie Tomlinson, director of Mobile Business at Sybase South Africa: "IDC's recognition of Sybase's position in the market is yet another demonstration of the momentum behind the Sybase Unwired Enterprise initiative. We are seeing strong demand in South Africa and the rest of the world for our enterprise mobility platform, which stretches across the mobile enterprise application platform, mobile device management, and enterprise wireless e-mail market segments."
“The strong growth of the market shows how strategically important enterprise mobility is becoming as companies strive to become more agile and efficient in response to the economic downturn”, adds Tomlinson.
Mobile middleware offerings, such as Sybase iAnywhere, which include components for application enablement, mobile e-mail, mobile device management, and mobile security, will be in the best position to fulfill growing customer demand.
IDC defines mobile middleware as a software platform that includes server and/or client software that either extends the reach of existing IP or other mission-critical applications or offers the ability to develop new applications for mobile users leveraging a variety of wireless devices, including converged mobile devices (CMDs), ruggedised devices, and mobile phones. Mobile middleware may include the platform, front-end applications, and development tools as sold in a single offering. Mobile middleware software offerings may also be offered as a hosted service.
