Idion Solutions and integrated connectivity and printing solutions provider APC have jointly developed an electronic statement delivery solution, which they presented today to clients in the finance, insurance, motoring and retail industries.
Idion Solutions developed the product, which extends APC`s own electronic delivery system to allow for electronic statement delivery and electronic bill presentment.
The companies will jointly market, deploy and support the product.
APC MD Gavin Dunlop says Enterprise Document Delivery (Enterprise DD) was designed to ensure electronic delivery of invoices and statements using e-mail as the primary method of distribution.
One of the selling points of the product is that it does not need to be integrated into companies` data sources or require documents to be redesigned.
The application obtains its source data from a current print stream and converts it into Adobe Acrobat format for distribution by encrypted e-mail or Web interface.
The Acrobat format was chosen because the files are not large, can be compressed, and the format is used widely, with Acrobat Reader being freely available.
Dunlop says APC, which was established in 1987, has a track record of being able to connect any host to any printer.
Enterprise DD takes this a step further. APC recognised that if a document can be printed, it can be stored digitally, searched quickly and easily, retrieved, accessed via the Internet, be secured, presented to customers over the Internet and be distributed via e-mail, fax or reprint.
In essence, the application takes incoming print streams in any format, and converts them in an intelligent spooler to Adobe Acrobat format and XML.
Idion Solutions CEO Ken Jarvis says the beauty of the application is in its simplicity. It does not have to create an image, but uses an already-existing image, whereas typical alternatives need to be integrated with databases.
Dunlop says while Enterprise DD focuses on electronic statement delivery, it is also suitable for electronic bill presentment. The next version will cater for electronic bill presentment and payment.
