Hot-on-the-heels of IDION Solutions obtaining Gold Certified Partner status from Microsoft, the South African arm of JSE-listed IDION Technology Holdings has been appointed as the first Microsoft preferred .NET partner in the country.
The announcement is in line with IDION Solutions` stated strategy of committing the company exclusively to Microsoft as the backbone of all its implementations.
IDION Solutions` CEO Ken Jarvis comments: "We have developed, and will continue to develop, leading-edge, highly innovative products and solution sets around Microsoft technology. These are developed in close alignment with Microsoft and are .NET-enabled and .NET-ready."
Microsoft South Africa has appointed IDION Solutions as the first local Microsoft .NET Preferred Partner. IDION`s proven expertise in developing effective technology solutions, technical skills, and insight into the .NET platform confirmed its appointment.
"From a technical standpoint, .NET is changing the way that applications are developed, as well as enabling the creation of new kinds of applications," says David Setshedi, director .NET and developer group at Microsoft South Africa.
"Software developers using the .NET platform and XML as an industry standard are able to write code for the PC, deploy it to a variety of devices and fully harness the connectivity of the Internet in their applications."
A large number of IDION Solutions` staff are MCSD`s and by the end of next quarter the company will have all its developers SQL 2000 certified - a key component of Microsoft`s .NET platform.
Len Berzen, IDION`s newly appointed Chief Technology Strategist, says: "The focus is shifting from individual Web sites or devices connected to the Internet, to constellations of computers, devices and services that work together to deliver broader, richer solutions. This allows individuals to gain control over how, when and what information is delivered to them: the empowered user emerges.
"Computers, devices and services will be able to collaborate with each other to provide rich services, instead of being isolated islands where the user provides the only integration.
"Businesses will be able to offer their products and services in a way that lets customers seamlessly embed them in their own electronic fabric. This is the cornerstone of Microsoft`s .NET strategy. "
Berzen believes that .NET will give rise to a whole new generation of applications, created and connected seamlessly by today`s software developers, using the .NET platform, with XML as an industry standard. XML is a common language, a technological "Esperanto" if you like, that allows users to create their own personal information space and be able to access this "anytime anywhere on any device".
He concludes that IDION Solutions` existing knowledge, understanding and experience of the .NET strategy, combined with its close association with Microsoft as its first preferred .NET partner, makes the company well placed to deliver innovative solutions in today`s competitive marketplace.
