At an awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Monday, JSE listed IDION Technology Holdings was ranked fourth in the SA Global Company Awards 2001, sponsored by Business Report, Barloworld and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Now in its fourth year, the SA Global Company Awards take into account measures used by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development to evaluate the global reach of South African companies, according to financial and non-financial criteria.
This year`s competition was judged by PricewaterhouseCoopers and verified by a panel of several industry experts including: Brait SA Chairman Mervyn King, MacGregor BFA financial analyst, Professor Leon Brummer, Jeff van Rooyen of the Financial Services Board and Johnny Brown of the United States Commercial Service.
The award ranks IDION Technology Holdings at 66,92 %, thereby acknowledging the success of a company which has extended its reach and foresight way beyond its South African origins. It also rated the winner Sappi with a 72,06 % assessment according to a 'Most Global Index Score`.
IDION Technology Holdings has achieved these criteria through disciplined strategic focus and international growth, demonstrated most significantly by the acquisition of US-based Vision Solutions Inc, in March 2000.
According to IDION Technology Holdings CEO Nicolaas Vlok, "Vision Solutions, which has been a global pioneer and leader in the information availability marketplace for over a decade, was a groundbreaking acquisition for what had previously been a purely South African company.
"This effectively signalled IDION Technology Holdings` formal entr'ee to the global arena," comments Vlok. Vision Solutions serves customers across multiple industries around the world, with 44 percent of Fortune 100 companies transacting with Vision Solutions as their key business partner. Vision Solutions has sold 4,200 licenses in 70 countries and has more than 1,600 customers worldwide.
"Vital success factors going forward, include the ongoing progress at Vision Solutions and ensuring that IDION Solutions, the South African arm of IDION Technology Holdings, continues to provide premier business optimization solutions and services on the Microsoft platform.
"I believe that this award reflects the truly global qualities of the Group, where innovation and integrity are key drivers in meeting our clients business objectives," Vlok concludes.
